The 2012 San Francisco Pride theme was “Global Equality” and it was interesting to see how it was interpreted by the various groups that marched. There certainly were a lot of contingents. One hundred and ninety nine plus some protesters made for a very long parade. I waited for the Leather Contingent which finally came by at about 3pm. There were many long gaps in the parade and lots of people got tired of waiting. Don’t know where the “Gap Police” were this year!
Dot Jones from Glee, Sarah Silverman and Carmen Carrera were the celebrity grand marshals and Sister Roma was one of the Individual Community Grand Marshals. The Grand Marshals are the public emissaries of Pride. They represent a mix of individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender community. With the help of community input, Pride selects these groups and individuals as Grand Marshals in order to honor the work they have put into furthering the causes of LGBT people.
